Case Study 5 – HAZ

Dave is a 55-year-old lorry driver making deliveries around the North West. He begins his shift at 05:45 after completing his daily walkaround checks and a short briefing from his transport manager. Dave logs in to his digital tachograph and departs the depot at 06:00.

By 08:10, he has made two deliveries and takes a 15-minute break at a motorway services. At 08:25, he resumes driving, completing another delivery by 10:00. He then spends 45 minutes helping site staff unload, followed by a further 20 minutes waiting for paperwork before departing.

At 13:20, Dave feels lightheaded while driving and safely pulls over at a lay-by. He has a bottle of water and sits for 15 minutes. He does not report this to anyone and continues driving at 13:40, eventually completing his final delivery at 16:10 and returning to the depot at 17:30.

Dave had a medical on his 55th Birthday.
